The seventh year of LOVE Wichita is upon us. This year's theme is "Who Do You LOVE?". Key focus will be relationship and community. In 1 John 4:20-21 God says: If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? (MSG) The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both. The greatest commandment after all is "30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
Spend some time thinking on this simple yet profound command as you prepare to serve with LOVE this April. Ask yourself, what does it mean to really love someone? To serve them? How is your personal relationship with Jesus. It doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing, what are you doing? Do you have that personal relationship of compassion, connection, and commitment in letting God find you, call you, help you, feed you, serve you, and love you?
Will you follow God, no matter where He leads you? I think the imperative is clear, we cannot do one without the other - we must love God and others. And serving them is one way we do this. So, as you serve others, in Christ, you are loving them. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you and you can do all things in Christ who strengthens you.
We might not like all the places God leads us, but we must choose today to follow Him and let Him lead, no matter where that might take us. So, Who do you love?
