If you don't find your answer below, please feel free to contact us!
Throughout the year we have projects submitted to us. There are so many areas of our great city that need some work and we have a very difficult time deciding which ones to put on the list. We’d love to get to all of them - with more volunteers that desire could become a reality! Until that happens, we have placed the following on our to-do list. If you have a project that you’d like to add to the list, please submit your request! Go here for more on Project Submission.
LOVE Wichita is a cooperative effort of Christians, representing many area churches; joining together as servants of our Savior, Jesus Christ, to be a blessing to our city. LOVE Wichita is a day of service, a day to be the hands and feet of our Lord in order to bless others and glorify God. LOVE Wichita teams work on a variety of projects in all areas of the city. The first LOVE Wichita event occurred in 2009, an idea born out of a friendly challenge from Mayor Carl Brewer to the leadership of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
Jesus Christ is Lord, the son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and bore our sins when he was crucified and died on the cross. He is risen, that we may have life eternal. He is the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through him.
Initially Eastminster Presbyterian Church performed all administrative aspects of LOVE Wichita. Beginning in 2012 a Core Team from participating churches has shared the responsibilities. Members of the Core Team serve a limited term, with new members regularly joining the team. Current Core Team members are: Steve Falke of Eastminster, Karen Rogers of Tabernacle Bible Church Without Walls, Phil Smith of Countryside Christian Church, Tom Black of Central Christian Church, Tom Berry of Pathway Church, and Janice Crabtree of His Helping Hands.
LOVE Wichita is administered using volunteer labor at existing local church sites. So there is no salary, building, or utility costs incurred by LOVE Wichita. Production and maintenance of this website represents the largest expenditure of the LOVE Wichita organization. This cost was initially borne by four core churches. Other participating churches have also contributed to this effort on a voluntary basis. LOVE Wichita is NOT funded through requests to its registered participants. As a volunteer you will NOT be asked to help defray the expenses of this organization. Your time, energy, and a few tools and equipment are all that you will be asked to loan to LOVE Wichita. You may donate cash or supplies, if you desire. The procedure for that is explained elsewhere on this page. Project expenses (materials, supplies, and food) at a given job site are covered by the church assigned to that project.
We serve individuals and nonprofit organizations that have needs which are not being met, sometimes for economic reasons or for reasons of disability. In the case of individuals, their home may have a safety or code violation that needs to be corrected. In the case of nonprofits, we help them maximize their mission by completing routine tasks which saves them money.
We serve in the name of our Lord Jesus, and we seek to glorify Him in all we do.
Home owners (not landlords or tenants), charitable or non-profit organizations, City and County entities, and public schools are approved recipients of LOVE Wichita work teams.
We would love to help you. If you own your residence and need assistance with repairs or clean up, please call 316-247-2399.
LOVE Wichita is an event that was organized primarily to repair and clean up the homes and grounds of local homeowners. That focus, however, has now been extended to include local non-profit and community service organizations. To request help for your non-profit organization please call 316-247-2399.
The vast majority of projects involve some type of home or building repair. That repair may be indoors, such as painting walls and cleaning or installing cabinets. The repair may be outdoors installing siding, painting, or roofing. Some projects demolish structures that the homeowner can no longer maintain. Many projects include landscaping activities: mowing, weeding, planting, and mulching. And there are other less physically demanding projects such as completing inventories for Union Rescue or sorting and stocking at World Impact’s Thrift Store.
Most projects are submitted to LOVE Wichita by City or County agencies, non-profit organizations, or public schools. Projects may also be submitted by a Church Coordinator. All submitted projects, however, are reviewed and approved by the LOVE Wichita event Administrator prior to becoming a part of the larger LOVE Wichita effort. For help with Project Submission call 316-247-2399.
LOVE Wichita is an event that currently occurs one time during the year, on the last Saturday in April. However, in the future it may occur multiple times if enough interest is expressed.
Yes! You, or someone from your church, should contact the LOVE Wichita Administrator. His/her contact information is located on the ‘Contact’ page. The LOVE Wichita Administrator will answer your questions. When your church decides to become involved, your Church Coordinator ( a member of your congregation that leads the event for your church) should contact the LOVE Wichita administrator and ‘register’ your church for participation. Your church is then officially a part of LOVE Wichita. Welcome aboard!
Yes! Anyone who has a heart to serve others may participate in LOVE Wichita.
You can register here by clicking the Volunteer button and completing the requested information. If you need assistance with registration, you should contact your Church Coordinator. If your church does not yet participate, you may call 316-247-2399 for registration assistance. The cost to participate varies among the participating churches. Some churches use registration fees to defray the cost of T-shirts, project materials and supplies, and snacks and meals for volunteers. Other churches budget for the event and only charge the registrant for the T-Shirt. Your registration cost is set by your local church.
Church Coordinator's from each participating church control the cut-off of online registration for their church. If you want to register, and your Church Coordinator has cut-off online registration, please contact your Church Coordinator directly. If you do not know who your Church Coordinator is, or otherwise need help with registration, please call 316-247-2399.
Printed Registration forms are available at your church from your Church Coordinator. If you are not a member of a participating church, call 316-247-2399.
Personal information we ask for when you register includes your name, address, phone number, age group, and shirt size. We also gather other information, such as your work preferences and skills, that helps us assign you to an appropriate project. We respect your privacy and will never sell, rent, or otherwise commercialize your personal information.
While it is not necessary to create a User ID and Password to serve in LOVE Wichita, there are three benefits in doing so. 1. You supply your Church Coordinator with an E-Mail Address. This provides him or her with a handy method for communicating event details with you. 2. Much of your registration information is saved so that registration in subsequent years is simplified. 3. You can LogIn later and change your registration information, if needed. You cannot change your registration information if you have not supplied us with a User ID and Password.
Yes, but we encourage you to participate with your own church community. (You specify your church affiliation for the event during the registration process.)
You may change your registration information ONLY IF you registered with a User ID and Password. Otherwise, you must contact your Church Coordinator to effect registration changes. Whether or not you registered with a User ID and Password, changes to your registration cannot be made online after the registration deadline passes.
All volunteers for LOVE Wichita serve on a team that is led by a participating church. You may choose to serve with any church you are familiar with, or you may call 316-247-2399 for assistance in choosing a church.
Yes, there are a number of tasks you can help with that do not require strenuous activity. These can be arranged by your Church Coordinator and range from preparation of marketing materials at your church to helping serve lunches and snacks at your project sites, as well as prayer and intercession for the event. Some work projects, as well, require very little or no strenuous activity. We encourage you to participate regardless of your physical condition.
Yes. The blue LOVE Wichita T-shirt identifies you as a participant in the project. It enables Police/Security personnel, your work team captain, home owners, and their neighbors to easily distinguish between those who are authorized participants at a given project site and those who should not be on site.
No. You do NOT need to purchase a new T-shirt every year. You may do so if you desire, but it is not required. You may use the same T-shirt year-after-year for as long as it remains suitable for wear.
Yes! In fact, serving as a family is encouraged, though it is not required. In serving as a family even the younger members can be a part of the project, since parents or guardians are available to monitor the children’s activity and ensure their safety. To ensure that your family works together on the same project, create a 'Group' for your family and assign all family members to that Group. Example: Create the Group "Smith Family" when you register and assign everyone in your family to that Group. Your church Coordiantor will then know that your family wishes to work together at the same project site.
Please note also that registration of your family is facilitated by using the ‘Add Family Members’ Button on the Registration page. This option saves information that is most likely the same for all family members and enters it for you in the appropriate fields of other family members as they are registered. Registration of family members is therefore streamlined when compared with ‘Individual’ registration.
Yes! Serving together with others in your Sunday School Class, Youth Group, Bible Study, or Family is encouraged. The registration process includes a ‘Group’ selection option. This option allows you to 1) review the members of existing groups, 2) join or register with an existing group, or 3) create a new group, if you are the first in that group to register.
If you need to cancel your registration, you must contact your Church Coordinator. He or she will remove your name from the registration list. If you do not know who your Church Coordinator is, please call 316-247-2399.
Yes, once you have completed your project, you can request that your Church Coordinator assign you to another project or connect with another church, if your church has completed its projects.
You are only expected to work the shift you selected when you registered. You are not expected, nor should you feel obligated, to work more than you agreed to when you registered. However, you are encouraged to remain at the project site until your shift or project is completed. (Some projects are more extensive than others and cannot be completed in a single day. Your Team Captain can provide more information about the time needed to complete your project.)
If your team finishes your project early, you are encouraged to help complete other projects assigned to your church. If your church no longer has active projects, you can connect with another church by calling 316-247-2399.
If bad weather prevents the event from occurring on its scheduled day, it will be rescheduled for the Saturday following the originally scheduled event date.
In the event of rain on the day of service some projects may be postponed until the following Saturday. Many projects will not be affected by rain, so do not assume that your project has been postponed. The decision to postpone a particular project will be made by the church assigned to complete that project. Your first communication should be with your Team Captain. If the storm is severe enough as to postpone the entire event, a notice will be posted on the home page of this site. Postings will also be made to the LOVE Wichita Facebook page and Twitter.
We sincerely hope and we pray that you will not receive injury at your project site. In that event, however, you should know that LOVE Wichita does not provide insurance to registrants for injury or illness that occurs while serving on a LOVE Wichita project. Medical insurance remains your responsibility. (When you register, you agree to release LOVE Wichita and your church representatives from liability in the case of injury or illness.)
We sincerely hope that you do not lose or damage your tools or equipment while serving at a LOVE Wichita work site. Unfortunately, LOVE Wichita does not carry insurance against such a loss. You should, therefore, consider insuring tools rented for a project against such loss. Please check your home owners policy or church insurance to determine whether your personal tools are covered in the event of a loss while working at a LOVE Wichita work site.
Each volunteer is asked to provide their Team Captain with feedback of their experience following completion of the event. Your Team Captain or Church Coordiinator will supply you with an evaluation form. The information you and others provide is then compiled and used by LOVE Wichita to assess and plan for the following year’s event.
You can submit pictures and video from your project post-event using the media submission tab of this site. Once you click on the tab, follow the instructions to upload your media for review prior to posting.
You should contact Tom Black (316-670-4357) to donate materials, supplies, or monies to the LOVE Wichita event at large. Your Church Coordinator will be glad to accept donations of materials, supplies, or money to support the projects assigned to your church.
Yes, one of our goals is to replicate the LOVE Wichita process in as many cities as possible throughout the U.S. We are eager to share our experience and knowledge with you. Contact the Event Administrator at the address or phone number listed on the Contact page.
